'Grapes of the Loire Valley' - Brighton, UK

Last Saturday Gérald was in Brighton at The Wine Shop & Tasting Room hosting a private wine tasting afternoon – ‘Grapes of the Loire Valley’ – a superb wine loving crowd compiling of clients from Ten Green Bottles & Bistrot Les Tontons, as well as past guests from Loire Valley Uncorked & La Bellevue, all of whom spent 2 hours discovering further, the Loire Valley varietals.

The selection of wines to be sampled were from: Domaine de la Paleine (AOC Saumur, AOC Saumur-Puy-Notre-Dame, AOC Saumur-Champigny), Domaine de l’Oubliée (AOC Bourgueil), Aigues Vives (Côt) & La Pente de Chavigny (Sauvignon) produced by Mikaël Bouges located in the Touraine, and the exquisite La Tête dans les Etoiles created by Eric Gastellier, a biodynamic producer located outside of Saumur – here are some of our photos from the afternoon…

The Square, Mayfair, London (2 Michelin Stars), is referencing our wines !

Ten Green Bottles (Founders: Sam Devaney, Simon Broad & Gérald Beaumont) whose impressive roster of restaurant clients includes: The Fat Duck, The Ledbury and Hix, continue their objective of introducing undiscovered and little known French wines of outstanding quality, character and regional expression.

This week the latest restaurant to reference two of our wines is The Square (1988-2012 Two Michelin Stars), Mayfair, London, W1J 6PU. The two wines to be referenced are :

Domaine de la Paleine Saumur blanc 'Arietta'
and
Domaine Thomas Sancerre 'Ultimus'

Both of these superb wines can be found, savouried alongside traditional bistro fair or purchased directly at Bistrot Les Tontons in Place Saint Pierre, located in the heart of Saumur.

13ème Dive Bouteille, Château de Brézé 49

'All good things come to an end' and after a remarkably mild winter the snow arrived!

Not to be deterred Gérald and I headed off to the organic and biodynamic wine fair, La Dive Bouteille, held in the impressive troglodyte caves under the stunning Château de Brézé.

Marion from Bistrot Les Tontons joined us as we sourced new wines, not only for our wine bar Bistrot Les Tontons in Saumur but also for Ten Green Bottles, with whom we have a partnership and wine bar in Brighton, The Wine Shop & Tasting Room.

An extremely well supported wine fair vignerons from - Champagne - Alsace - Jura - Savoie - Bourgogne - Beaujolais - Bordeaux et Sud-Ouest - Rhône - Languedoc - Roussillon - Provence-Corse - Loire - were in attendance.

Including producers from Géorgie, Serbie, Italie, le Coste (Italie), Espagne; Argentine, Chili and producers presenting cognac, ciders and liqueurs.

An expert in his field it is always an enlightening experience for me to join Gérald at wine fairs, not only to sample new and vintage wines but, in addition, to meet the vignerons directly, many of whom Gérald has known since his days of owning a bar à vin, wine bar in Paris.

On Monday I had the pleasure of meeting Thierry Navarre, Domaine Thierry Navarre - Domaine Thierry Navarre will soon be available at Bistrot Les Tontons, Saumur.
