And has since followed the vintages produced at this extraordinary Domaine which has been in Mme Thomas family since 1670.

le Petit Cormier 2009

A superb red wine produced by Mikaël Bouges, an organic wine-maker from Faverolles-sur-Cher (41), whose name you may recognise from past recommendations.

le Petit Cormier 2009 is beautifully balanced, 100% cabernet franc.  Easy to drink, round in mouth, fruity and a delicious dense red, in colour.

Penny Warden, contemporary artist at Bistrot Les Tontons

Recently we had the great pleasure of meeting Penny Warden, a renowned British contemporary artist and her husband Richard at Bistrot Les Tontons.

TRIPADVISOR : We LOVED the bistro.  It was terribel weather the day we booked but the welcome more than made up for it.  We tasted the best wine ever since we have started visiting France in the last two years.  Very filling lunch too.  Unfortunately the rain did not allow us to walk it off!  Would defnitely return.

Visit from the WellHungVineyard, Virginia, USA

Completing their food & wine extravaganza throughout France, Gérald recently welcomed the WellHungVineyard from Virginia, USA to Bistrot Les Tontons, who enjoyed alongside dinner, an extensive dégustation of cabernet franc wines.

Thank you for kindly taking the time to share your experience at Bistrot Les Tontons on TripAdvisor.

TRIPADVISOR : Finishing a two week wine tasting and foodie trip to France we ended up in Saumur after Condrieu, Ampuis, Lyon, Meursault and Dijon.  This gem of a bistrot with engaging proprietor Gérald was a highlight on a cold spring night.

After instructing me to not even attempt my very bad French, he put before us a range of delicious French comfort food.  A duck confit like pot pie with potatoes was irresistible after a week of dining in one, two and three starred Michelin restaurants in Lyon and Burgundy.  A cozy evening of local cuisine and a casual atmosphere was perfect.

But what made the night memorable was a cabernet franc tasting (lost count at 12) once I mentioned we grew cabernet franc back in Virginia.  The top wine was a 2008 Domaine de la Paleine Saumur-Champigny Tamino.  Gerald arranged the winery to deliver two bottles for our trip home.  On returning to pick up the wine he had a small snack for us.

Special treatment, great service, unique wines and delicious food.  Can't ask for more at a reasonable price. C'est magnifique !

Porte Ouverte : Domaine de la Paleine

Sunday 28 April 2013 : after dining at Les Tontons on Saturday evening, Gérald invited a number of BLT clients to Domaine de la Paleine's Porte Ouverte. Already familair with the wines from la Paleine, the Porte Ouverte provided a super opportunity to enjoy a visit of the vineyard with Gérald, and a chance to sample the Domaine's new vintages.
